La Joya ISD’s Chief of Academics & School Leadership Appointed to Texas Education Agency Chief Academic Officer Council
La Joya, Texas – La Joya ISD is proud to announce that Dr. Derek Little, Chief of Academics & School Leadership, has been appointed to serve on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner’s Chief Academic Officer (CAO) Council.
This prestigious appointment reflects Dr. Little’s dedication, visionary leadership, and deep commitment to advancing academic excellence both within La Joya ISD and across the state. His selection places La Joya ISD at the forefront of statewide educational policy discussions and innovation.
The CAO Council was established to provide strategic input and feedback to TEA leaders on critical programmatic work that impacts public schools in Texas. The Council is composed of top academic officers from 10 traditional public school districts and two charter school networks across the state. Members are appointed for two- or four-year terms and meet approximately four times a year in Austin, with additional virtual meetings as needed.
“We are incredibly proud of Dr. Little’s appointment to this important council,” said Dr. Marcey Sorensen, Superintendent of Schools at La Joya ISD. “His insight, experience, and commitment to equity and excellence make him an ideal representative for our district and region. This appointment not only honors Dr. Little’s leadership but also reflects the strength of our academic programs and the tireless work of educators across La Joya ISD.”
As a member of the CAO Council, Dr. Little will help shape decisions that impact curriculum, instruction, assessment, and policy for millions of students across Texas. His participation ensures that the perspectives of South Texas students, families, and educators are represented in statewide conversations.
“This honor is a reflection of our collective work in La Joya ISD,” said Dr. Little. “I am humbled to serve and eager to bring the voices of our students and teachers to the table as we work together to improve outcomes for all.”
La Joya ISD congratulates Dr. Little on this achievement and looks forward to the positive impact his leadership will have beyond district lines.
