Texas Common Course Numbering System
The Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) is a voluntary, co-operative effort among 136 Texas community colleges and universities to facilitate transfer of freshman and sophomore level general academic coursework. TCCNS provides a shared, uniform set of course designations for students and their advisors to use in determining both course equivalency and degree applicability of transfer credit on a statewide basis. When students transfer between two participating TCCNS institutions, a course taken at the sending institution transfers as the course carrying the same TCCNS designation at the receiving institution.

Welcome back! I hope the school year is off to a great start and you are as excited about the beginning of the fall semester as we are at The University of Texas at Austin. Last week we kicked off the start of the new academic year by welcoming over 8,000 new Longhorn students. You know our students well, and you know why we so look forward to the impact they will make on the Forty Acres and the world when they graduate in four years. Thank you for all you have done to help our new students prepare for success at UT Austin. We so appreciate all you do to make a difference in the lives of your students, and we are so delighted that they have chosen UT Austin for their college home.
Fall 2019 Application Cycle
Over 2,500 students have already applied for fall 2019 admission to UT Austin. This is an exciting time for students and their families, but we recognize that there is a lot to consider. A few key reminders for the fall 2019 freshman admission cycle:
• Automatic admission eligibility: UT Austin freshman applicants who are in the top 6% of their Texas high school class are eligible for automatic admission to fall 2019. Students who may have questions should contact the Office of Admissions.
• Simplified scholarship consideration: As a reminder, all students who apply for admission will be considered for university scholarships. A few scholarships do have specific eligibility criteria and require students to complete a survey. Otherwise, students are automatically considered for available scholarships by submitting their application for admission. Please note that each applicant who submits a complete application for admission will be prompted to review this additional list via the university's MyStatus online portal. Visit the Admissions Scholarships web page for additional information. As always, we strongly recommend that students complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), to ensure that students can be considered for all for which they may be eligible.
Longhorn Fridays — You are invited!
Our commitment to students and student success is centered in academic success, but another key part of our support to students is to ensure that they feel a sense of belonging to our community. Last week we officially kicked off Longhorn Fridays. This effort is focused on fostering a strong sense of belonging among our students—they are part of a very special community—our Longhorn family of students, faculty, staff and alumni. Our community will celebrate Longhorn Fridays across campus and around the world—making it easy for Longhorns on- and off-campus to share their connection to the Forty Acres and their pride in the university by wearing burnt orange on Fridays.

Colleges That Claim to Meet Full Financial Need
A generous financial aid package can make the difference in whether some students can attend a certain college – especially if that school comes with a hefty price tag.
Financial aid packages are one way that schools reduce the net price for some families and entice prospective students. For the 2016-2017 school year, only 66 out of 1,388 ranked colleges and universities reported meeting students' full financial need, according to data submitted to U.S. News in an annual survey.

*** Early decision versus early action ***
Early decision plans are binding — a student who is accepted as an ED applicant must attend the college. Early action plans are nonbinding — students receive an early response to their application but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1. Counselors need to make sure that students understand this key distinction between the two plans.
